The Journal, Volume 24 (Fall 2027)

233fa858d7ed45dab84ad1445d5a1626 cover

This issue invites rigorous scholarship that examines how computational methods are reshaping design research, education, and professional practice, with particular emphasis on the evolving relationships among artificial intelligence, extended reality (VR, AR, MR), and the material translation of ideas through digital fabrication and prototyping. We welcome contributions that move beyond tool demonstrations to articulate clear research questions, defensible methods, and evidence based insights into design processes and outcomes.

Suggested topics include, but are not limited to:

  • AI assisted and generative design workflows, including human AI collaboration and evaluation methods
  • Computational design methods, parametric systems, and optimization for performance and decision support
  • XR as a research instrument for design prototyping, simulation, collaboration, and user experience assessment
  • Materialization pipelines linking digital models to fabrication, including 3D printing and hybrid digital physical workflows
  • Reality capture and digital twins as computational substrates for design, analysis, and lifecycle feedback
  • Impacts on design cognition, creativity, usability, accessibility, ethics, and responsible innovation
  • Design education approaches that build computational fluency and assess learning outcomes with digital tools

JDDR welcomes Research Articles, Methodological and Technical Papers, Review Articles, Case Studies and Applied Research, and Short Communications / Technical Notes. Authors are encouraged to provide transparent documentation of software, hardware, datasets, and evaluation procedures, and to share supporting materials where appropriate.

Submit manuscripts through the JDDR online submission system. Questions may be directed to the editorial team via the journal website.
