一般社団法人工藝文化振興会は、柳宗悦らによって提唱された「民藝」と、民藝運動が関わった文化領域、すなわち柳の言を踏まえるならば「工藝文化」と言い得る文化領域に関する調査研究・普及振興を通じて、日本の豊かな文化的土壌を次世代へ継承することを目的として、2026年1月に設立されました。
ちょうど100年前となる1926年4月1日、柳宗悦・濱田庄司・河井寬次郎・富本憲吉は連名にて『日本民藝美術館設立趣意書』を提示し、「民藝」という言葉と概念を社会に対し世に示しました。爾来100年を経て、「民藝」に込められた理念と活動の積み重ねは今日、デザイン、ローカリズム、文化の多様性など、さまざまな観点から参照されています。
私たちは、日本民藝協会・日本民藝館をはじめとする既存組織と連携しながら、工藝文化の振興に寄与してまいります。
The Kogei Bunka Society was established in January 2026 to pass on Japan’s rich cultural heritage to future generations through research and promotion of “Kogei culture”—the cultural domain that encompasses “Mingei” (folk crafts) as advocated by Yanagi Muneyoshi and his colleagues, as well as the broader cultural sphere shaped by the Mingei movement.
On April 1, 1926—exactly one hundred years ago—Yanagi Muneyoshi, Hamada Shoji, Kawai Kanjiro, and Tomimoto Kenkichi jointly published “A Proposal for the Establishment of the Japan Folk Crafts Museum,” introducing the word and concept of “Mingei” to society. Over the century since, the philosophy and accumulated endeavors of Mingei have come to be referenced from diverse perspectives, including design, localism, and cultural diversity.
We are committed to contributing to the promotion of Kogei culture in collaboration with established organizations such as the Japan Folk Crafts Association and the Japan Folk Crafts Museum.
